More measles outbreaks put US total within single digits of modern-day record
(CIDRAP) – In its weekly update today, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported 40 more measles cases today, boosting the number of infections this year to 1,267, which is just 8 shy of passing the total in 2019, which was the highest since the disease was eliminated in the country in 2000. The first case of measles was confirmed in February 2025. In the almost five months since then, as of June 27, 10,065 cases of measles have been confirmed. As of today, July 3, the number of confirmed cases has reached 11,338. This is an increase of more than 1,200 cases compared to a week ago. However, no additional deaths have been recorded.
