Parliament votes 138–0 to reject president's prosecutor pick
The National Assembly did not vote to approve the head of state's candidate, Zoltán Szathmáry, for the position of Prosecutor General. At the National Assembly's extraordinary session on Monday, members rejected the election of President András Baka's candidate to the post by a secret vote of 138 against, 0 in favour, and 1 abstention.
Parliament rejects the candidate proposed by the President for a new Attorney General, which is particularly important in Hungary's hierarchical judicial system.

According to the President of the Republic, the rejection does not mean that his candidate is unfit.
The President of the Republic still does not want to consult with the government or the parties about the Prosecutor General. He could even nominate Szathmáry again, but that would only be wasting time.
The head of state said he knew about the case of his brother Zoltán Szathmáry before naming his candidate. He denied that the nomination was an attempt to save the old Péter Polt-style prosecution.
