Since its creation in 2001, honourary citizenship has been attributed to many personalities, Hamas hostages (2024), the people of Nagorny Karabakh (2023) and the city of Kiev (2022).
On Thursday, the Mayor of the capital proposed to the Paris Council that the Palestinian civilian population in Gaza and the West Bank, as well as Palestinian journalists deployed in conflict zones, should be accorded honorary citizenship.
