The Calabrian steel industry, active since the eighteenth century, was the basis of the development of a modern weapons factory whose rifles equipped the Bourbon army in the last years of life of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. It was abandoned in 1864 for a choice of post-unitarian government.
