AI Artist Xania Monet Debuts on Adult R&B Airplay — a Radio Chart Breakthrough

Xania Monet is the first AI artist to chart on US Billboard, amassing 44.4 million streams and sparking debate over AI's impact on musicians' income and copyright laws.

  • Xania Monet, an AI-created artist, landed on the American Billboard Radio Airplay Chart as the first AI to do so, while singer Kehlani said it was `so beyond out of our control`.
  • Last month, an article found at least one AI artist debuted in each of the past four chart weeks, while earlier this year The Velvet Sundown gained around 400,000 monthly Spotify listeners and Deezer revealed 28 per cent of uploads were fully AI-generated.
  • Telisha `Nikki` Jones operates Monet using generative software, and Monet has 44.4 million official U.S. streams, earning over $52,000 in months after a bidding war with Hallwood Media.
  • Last month, Paul McCartney, Kate Bush and Elton John urged UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer to change copyright laws, while Elton John warned AI would `dilute and threaten young artists' earnings`.
  • A recent study on music workers' earnings warned a quarter of income may be lost to AI over four years, as Spotify, streaming platform said it removed 75million `spammy tracks` and the UK government consultation on creativity reviews responses.
