A devastating explosion at the S.E. Fireworks fireworks factory plunged Enschede into deep mourning. The explosion cost 23 people their lives and injured 950. Little remained of the houses in the working-class district of Roombeek. In the meantime, 25 years after that disastrous 13 May 2000, the residential area has been completely rebuilt and little in daily life reminds us of that pitch-black Saturday afternoon in Enschede.
