2027 Mitsubishi Pajero Revealed: Off-Road Icon Reborn as Triton Ute-Based SUV
The reborn SUV uses a heavily modified Triton chassis, adds a 2.4-liter diesel and eight-speed automatic, and keeps seven-seat capacity.
- The fifth-generation Mitsubishi Pajero has been revealed, marking the first new iteration of the iconic large SUV since 2006 with significant wholesale changes across its 44-year history.
- Underpinned by a modified Triton ladder-frame chassis, the new Pajero shifts away from its monocoque predecessor. Mitsubishi now builds the SUV in Thailand, moving production from Japan.
- Inside, the flagship SUV features a new dashboard with dual 14.3-inch displays and a bespoke Yamaha sound system. Mitsubishi says the interior design was "inherited from the first-generation Pajero."
- Positioned to compete against rivals like the Ford Everest, Isuzu MU-X, GWM Tank, and Toyota Prado, the Pajero enters a crowded segment. The MU-X starts at $49,900; the Japan-built Prado costs $73,200.
- Mitsubishi indicated it will offer hybrid versions of both the Triton and Pajero. Reports suggest additional models, including a Toyota RAV4-sized SUV, will launch in the near future.
