The US Federal Reserve cannot ignore the inflationary effects of repeated and prolonged supply shocks and must respond to them with measures that may be painful to the economy, stated the President of the Chicago Federal Reserve Bank, Ostan Gulsby. "The supply has begun to emerge more frequently, become stronger and last longer," says the text prepared for Gulsby's speech at a London event.
According to him, central banks should not simply disregard persistent shocks, although this approach remains appropriate for temporary disturbances

According to ChainCatcher, Federal Reserve's John Goursby stated that if inflation fails to fall back to the 2% target level, interest rates will need to be raised. He is open to the possibility that inflation is beginning to decline and is willing to accept that the current inflation problem stems from a supply shock that is about to subside, but hopes to see evidence that this shock is receding.
