Although the word "recruitment" has become popular in European capitals, it is unlikely to return in full force across the continent, according to an analysis by the Brussels-based magazine Parlament.

From Paris to Berlin, young people are called upon to return to service. Too expensive, too long, too intrusive or, on the contrary, indispensable? In the face of this new military service, even on the basis of volunteerism, the reactions are varied, sometimes contradictory. But decisions are indeed taken at the highest level, in a context of a general increase in human as well as technical and financial resources devoted to defence in Europe.
