US President Donald Trump on Friday threatened a 50% tariff on goods imported from the European Union (EU). After losing the tariff war with China, the US president is looking for another way to prove that he still "runs global trade," according to economist Alexander Izgorodin.

According to EPP Group leader Manfred Weber, the EU will stand up to the US in the tariff dispute and, if necessary, respond with countermeasures. "We shouldn't fall for Trump's provocative negotiating strategy now, but should continue to follow our line," Weber told "Bild" (Saturday edition).
