Back during the cusp of the release of the PS4 and Xbox One, there was a lot of talk about the idea of "the end of console generations". That these would be the last consoles launched under a new name and brand, and from there on out, there would be no PS5 or Xbox Two, and that consoles would follow the model of mobile phones. That there would instead be the same consoles but with mid-gen refreshes every 3-4 years, for all forseeable future.
