The Documentary 'NAZA' About the Massacre in Gaza Premieres in Theaters in 56 Countries, but Not in Israel
The film uses anonymous testimony from 24 Israeli soldiers and intelligence personnel to describe how civilian casualties were calculated in Gaza.
- On Wednesday, September 30, 2026, the documentary NAZA, directed by Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, opened at New York's IFC Center following a record-breaking 24.5-minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival.
- The film's title functions as an acronym for the Hebrew phrase 'nezek agavi,' or collateral damage, and features anonymous testimony from 24 Israeli military and intelligence personnel detailing AI-assisted targeting systems used in Gaza.
- Israeli Culture Minister Miki Zohar branded the filmmakers' work 'treason,' while Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu proposed legislation to revoke citizenship from anyone who 'slanders IDF soldiers,' intensifying domestic backlash.
- Outside the Saturday, September 26, 2026, screening, the Israeli-American Council organized a protest using mobile LED trucks displaying October 7 footage, arguing the documentary lacked war-context balance.
- The Guardian will make the documentary available to stream for free on its website beginning in November 2026, expanding on theatrical releases across 56 territories worldwide.
