Researchers have finally managed to find an explanation for an ancient riddle: why the lake, which is rapidly losing volume, is heating up at the same time.
The Dead Sea gets warmer not only by rising air temperatures. A physical model shows that its sinking water level weakens the evaporation cooling and thus drives a self-enhancing feedback from warming and further water loss. Up to 2100 the lake could lie about 85 meters lower with complete hydrological isolation and about five to eight degrees Celsius [...] Der Beitrag Feedback: The Dead Sea heats up when shrinking itself on appeared first on sc…
The Dead Sea is shrinking and warming, and the loss of water may be the reason why the lake continues to heat up, creating an irreversible cycle, according to Science Alert on October 7.
The Dead Sea is facing a worrying cycle: falling water levels cause the water to warm, which in turn fuels evaporation, leading to further water loss and shrinking.
