On 5 September 1975, Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme, a follower of Charles Manson, aimed a Colt M1911 pistol at President Gerald Ford in Sacramento. The gun misfired, and Ford survived. Fromme spent 34 years in prison before her release in 2009.
