The population of the Czech Republic reached 10,915,839 at the end of last year. Compared to the previous year, it increased by 6,300 people thanks to migration. Natural change would have reduced the population by almost 36,000 people, as the fewest children were born in the history of statistical surveys. The Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ) announced this on Tuesday.
Last year, around 77,600 children were born in the Czech Republic, the lowest in the history of statistical surveys dating back to 1785. The birth rate in the country has been falling for the fourth year in a row. The population nevertheless grew by around 6,300 last year to almost 10.916 million, but the increase was only due to foreign migration. The Czech Statistical Office announced this on Tuesday.
