Why Wasn't Gene Hackman Featured in the in Memoriam?
The Academy aims to engage younger viewers through expanded streaming and a deeply moving in memoriam honoring many film icons, with ratings steadily increasing, CEO Bill Kramer said.
- Final preparations are underway for the 98th Academy Awards on Sunday, with the telecast starting at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT on ABC and streaming on Hulu.
- Bill Kramer said earlier planning and shifts to earlier practices helped grow audiences as 19.7 million watched in 2025, with younger viewers increasingly tuning in via mobile and laptops.
- Producers and the Emmy-winning production design team refined the set and red carpet for months, staying open to pivots after last year’s opener with Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, while EJAE, Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami will perform "Golden" live, with actor Ahn Hyo-seop attending.
- The Academy will make a longer online in memoriam available, recognizing recent losses including Robert Redford, Diane Keaton and Robert Duvall, organizers said.
- Looking toward 100 and a future on YouTube, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences plans for the 100th Oscars in 2028 and a 2029 move to YouTube as part of a year-round cinema hub with SciTech Awards and Google Arts and Culture digitization.
