The District Court for Warsaw-Śródmieście has suspended the execution of the sentence against former opposition activist Piotr Niemczyk, his attorney, Jacek Dubois, announced. Meanwhile, Ombudsman Sylwia Gregorczyk-Abram has filed a cassation appeal with the Supreme Court regarding Niemczyk. "I have a strong grievance against the police," the former deputy head of the Intelligence Directorate of the State Protection Office told TOK FM.
"In the case of Piotr Niemczyk, the court has suspended the execution of the sentence," said the man's attorney, Jacek Dubois. A former opposition activist and intelligence officer.
Piotr Niemczyk, a well-known opposition figure from the communist era, was arrested on Tuesday for his participation in the Last Generation protest in Warsaw. His arrest sparked considerable outrage and led, among other things, to an intervention by the Human Rights Ombudsman. A court has now decided Niemczyk's fate.
"The court has just suspended the execution of the sentence in Piotr Niemczyk's case," attorney Jacek Dubois reported. Shortly thereafter, Waldemar Żurek announced that "he has just been released from prison."
