The Chargers and Eagles are among playoff teams hoping for boosts from new play-callers
Leaguewide, 22 of 32 teams have a new primary play-caller as playoff clubs seek to revive offenses and defenses this offseason.
Despite winning 11 games each and making the postseason, the Los Angeles Chargers and Philadelphia Eagles hired new offensive coordinators to spark struggling units.
Including teams that changed head coaches, 22 of the 32 NFL teams feature a new primary play-caller on offense, defense, or both this season.
The Chargers hired Mike McDaniel to replace Greg Roman, hoping to modernize an offense that looked stale over the past two years. Tackle Joe Alt said, "He's a wizard."
Philadelphia hired 34-year-old Sean Mannion to replace the fired Kevin Patullo after scoring dropped nearly five points per game in 2025. Mannion is the fifth offensive coordinator in five years for the Eagles.
Other playoff teams are also adjusting, with Denver's Sean Payton handing play-calling to Davis Webb and Carolina's Dave Canales promoting Brad Idzik. The Niners replaced Robert Saleh with Raheem Morris at defensive coordinator.
