Bears Coach Ben Johnson Says He Is 'Buying Luther Burden Stock' Going Into the Season
Ben Johnson says he is buying Luther Burden’s stock as the second-year receiver prepares for a larger role after DJ Moore’s trade.
Chicago Bears wide receiver Luther Burden III faces an elevated role following the March trade of veteran DJ Moore to Buffalo, joining receiver Rome Odunze and tight end Colston Loveland in the revamped offense.
Drafted from the University of Missouri last year, Burden recorded 47 receptions for 652 yards and two touchdowns in 15 games, overcoming a preseason hamstring injury that hampered his preparation.
During a 31-14 victory over Dallas in Week 3, Burden broke out with three catches for 101 yards and his first TD, later recording a season-high 138 yards in a 42-38 loss at San Francisco.
Coach Ben Johnson aims to unlock more of Burden's game, while running back Andre Swift praised his daily work ethic, saying, "Every day he goes to work, he knows his ability, and it shows."
Focusing on understanding defensive schemes, Burden continues developing his mental approach for the season ahead. "Just prove, you know, that I am who I say I am... I'm that guy," Burden said Thursday during organized team activities.
