Canadian government criticised for cutting off remedy talks before shutdown order
Chinese surveillance company Hikvision has accused the Canadian government of refusing to consider last-minute remedy proposals to resolve national security concerns before issuing a “procedurally unfair” order forcing it to shut down operations in the country.
In 2017, the Canadian government approved the sale of two companies involved in sensitive technologies such as satellites and lasers to Chinese companies, which aroused the concern of US lawmakers. The US urged Ottawa to remain highly vigilant on national security issues involving the Chinese Communist Party. In recent years, Canada has expelled a number of Chinese companies on the grounds of national security.
