[Ishigaki] On the 11th, under a clear summer sky on Ishigaki Island, the smallest cicada in Japan, the Iwasaki grass cicada, was spotted singing. Known in the Yaeyama Islands as a cicada that signals the arrival of early summer, it was heard chirping "jee-jee" from a cogon grass leaf. It usually begins singing from late March to early April. Its body length is about 1.6 centimeters.
