Prisons in England and Wales are so full that 4,500 prisoners will be released early from Thursday, a move that has outraged victims and police alike, while regulators warn the measure will only temporarily ease the shortage of space.

European penitentiary systems are under increasing pressure, and Britain has come to resort to early release of certain categories of prisoners in order to avoid lockdowns.
Thousands of convicts will begin leaving British prisons, reports Rzeczpospolita. Poles who face deportation to their home country will also be released on October 1st. However, the Polish government does not know which of them will return to Poland.
A mass early release program is being launched in the UK. By June 2027, approximately 4,500 prisoners are expected to be released, including Poles who, after being deported back to their home country, will not have to serve the remainder of their sentences in Poland.
