The Blood of Dawnwalker Review: Ambitious Vampire Action RPG Is a Bloody Good Time
- Rebel Wolves' The Blood of Dawnwalker launches September 3, 2026, as an action RPG led by The Witcher 3 director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz. Players control Coen, a supernatural 'Dawnwalker' who shifts between human form by day and vampire by night in 14th-century Europe.
- The story centers on a 30-day clock after villain Knyaz Brencis kidnaps Coen's family for sacrifice at his coronation. This ticking deadline forces players to prioritize objectives, as completing every side mission is physically impossible within the timeframe.
- Combat relies on directional blocking to parry incoming attacks matching the enemy's angle. Coen wields vampiric abilities at night and witchcraft during the day, though both consume health, requiring careful stamina management during encounters.
- The game allows players to influence the narrative through dialogue and actions in a sandbox environment. While reminiscent of The Witcher 3 in scope, the quests feature an interconnectedness critics describe as 'immersion' rarely seen in the genre.
- Published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, the game earns an 8/10 score for its ambitious design and unique combat system. Despite occasional technical rough edges, the title delivers a spirited experience for dark fantasy action RPG fans.

The Blood of Dawnwalker Review
All the time in the world.
Composed of some of the creators of "The Witcher III", the Polish studio Rebel Wolves delivers here a more collected adventure, which shines with the writing of its world and the choices it confronts us.
The Blood of Dawnwalker review: A dark fantasy worth devouring
Building a vampire RPG in an entirely original universe, while balancing emotional weight with a sprawling dark-fantasy world, sounds like the kind of challenge that could make even seasoned developers lose sleep trying to get it right for the audience. For a first-time studio, it should be downright terrifying. Yet Rebel Wolves have somehow sunk their fangs into the challenge and come out swinging, blowing my expectations out of the crypt.
Blood of Dawnwalker was put together by a Polish developer responsible for a series of Witcher games. The end result is mixed, because the story, world, and characters work very well, but the combat system is somehow not real.
