Plevris pledges tough stance at Migration Ministry handover
Unsuccessful asylum seekers can either “return to their country or go to jail,” Migration and Asylum Minister Thanos Plevris has said at the handover ceremony at his new ministry, following the resignation of Makis Voridis amid his alleged involvement in the OPEKEPE case.
"We will continue with the instructions we have received from the Prime Minister," said Plevris, noting that the government wanted to adopt this line from 2019, "but at that time Europe was not ready."
Thanos Plevris immediately set the tone for the policy he will follow on immigration, faithful to his far-right ideology.
