Thai Air Force says 2 pilots killed in plane crash during training mission
- The RTAF confirmed on Thursday that two RTAF pilots died when their AT-6 two-seat light attack aircraft crashed at around 10.30am in Ban Huay Fang village, Chom Thong district, Chiang Mai.
- Thailand recently acquired the Beechcraft-produced fighter-trainer and completed commissioning of its eight AT-6TH Wolverines as of August 2025, with all assigned to combat missions at Chiang Mai Air Base alongside 12 T-6TH Texan II trainers at Kamphaeng Saen Air Base.
- Responders found the aircraft fully ablaze with the two pilots' bodies trapped and the area cordoned off near a crater about 10m deep and debris across about 20m.
- Rescuers were notified at 10.48am and RTAF rescue personnel have arrived, while the RTAF said it deployed officials to inspect the scene as the cause is under investigation.
- Image and designation evidence show the aircraft appears to bear tail number 1 with a 'shark mouth' livery, indicating a Beechcraft AT-6TH Wolverine of 411 Squadron, Wing 41, based in Chiang Mai, and one was photographed landing at Bangkok military air base on Jan. 9, 2026.
