Thai badminton player first doping case at Asian Games: testers
The International Testing Agency said the 19-year-old tested positive for furosemide and can challenge the suspension at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
- On Monday, the International Testing Agency provisionally suspended 19-year-old Thai badminton player Pitchamon Opatniputh after she tested positive for the banned substance furosemide at the Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026.
- Testing officials collected the sample during out-of-competition testing on September 17. Furosemide is a banned substance competitors can use to excrete water for rapid weight loss.
- Ranked 18th globally, the rising star was scheduled to face China on Tuesday in the team event. The suspension prevents her from competing, training, or coaching during the Asian Games.
- Pitchamon can challenge the provisional suspension at the Court of Arbitration for Sport . The agency added, "The athlete also has the right to request the analysis of the B-sample."
- This marks the first known doping case at the 2026 Asian Games. The 19-year-old previously reached the semi-finals of the Thailand Open and finals at the Indonesia Masters and Orleans Masters this season.
