Texas Voter Registration Deadline Is Today: Here’s What You Need to Know
Election officials urged Texans to verify their registration and resolve suspense status as more than 200,000 records were delayed statewide, officials said.
On October 5, the voter registration deadline for the November 3 general election passed, leaving Texas voters unable to register for the upcoming midterm contests.
A technical failure at the Texas Department of Public Safety delayed at least 200,000 voter registration applications, forcing county election offices to process records in the final weeks before voting.
Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector and Voter Registrar Annette Ramirez said the county received about 108,000 records, with more than 75,000 remaining after duplicates were removed and about 11,000 requiring manual review before early voting begins October 19.
Election officials clarified that suspense status, affecting thousands of voters due to address discrepancies, does not prevent voting if residents confirm their current residence, as officials launched a 'Plan, Check, and Vote' campaign.
Early voting begins October 19 and continues through October 30, with Election Day scheduled for Tuesday, November 3, 2026, allowing voters to cast ballots across multiple weeks.
