DPS Stepping up Traffic Enforcement for Thanksgiving Holiday
Texas DPS will increase patrols from Nov. 26 to 30 targeting seat belt, speeding, and intoxicated driving violations to reduce crashes over Thanksgiving.
- On Wednesday, Nov. 26 the Texas Department of Public Safety announced it will increase enforcement statewide through Sunday, Nov. 30 to ensure a safe Thanksgiving weekend.
- Amid higher holiday traffic, DPS joins Operation CARE, as Bryan Rippee, Texas Highway Patrol Chief, said `Texas roads experience a major increase in traffic on both the days before and after the Thanksgiving holiday`.
- Last year, enforcement produced 45,770 warnings and citations along with 206 felony arrests, 162 DWI arrests and 67 fugitive arrests.
- As part of its 90th anniversary, DPS has launched a Keeping Texas Safe coloring and activity book featuring K-9 Disco to teach safety to children and guardians, available on the DPS website.
- Troopers will be looking for drivers committing violations such as not wearing seat belts, driving while intoxicated, speeding and failing to follow Move Over laws, and DPS urged motorists to stay alert, be patient, follow the law and focus on getting to their destination safely.
