Texas A&M's Collie Mascot Reveille X Has Eye Removed After Glaucoma Diagnosis
BRAZOS COUNTY, TEXAS, JUL 23 – Reveille X had her right eye removed after glaucoma and abnormal tissue were found, with veterinarians expecting a full recovery and return to activities by fall.
- In College Station, Texas, Reveille X had her right eye surgically removed at the Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, following a glaucoma diagnosis, Mark A. Welsh III said.
- Known as the `First Lady of Aggieland`, Reveille X was diagnosed with glaucoma after six months of vision loss, in a tradition dating back to 1931.
- During the surgery, Sean Collins performed a roughly 40-minute salvage procedure, removing the eye as a precaution after discovering abnormal tissue and sending that tissue to the Comparative Ocular Pathology Laboratory of Wisconsin.
- In a public statement, Welsh said, `Miss Rev has come through the surgery successfully, has been discharged and is resting comfortably`, and she will take a break from her duties before returning to her activities this fall.
- According to Collins, pathology results are expected in one to two weeks, and further investigations may follow based on those findings.
