SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA, JUL 25 – Tesla will start its invite-only Robotaxi rides with safety drivers to expand self-driving tech amid declining vehicle sales, following a limited Austin test last month.
- On Thursday, Tesla Inc. plans to launch its Robotaxi service in San Francisco this weekend, moving the timeline up to Friday, according to an internal memo viewed by Business Insider.
- Amid weakening demand, regulatory credits and vehicle deliveries declined, as Tesla's CEO Elon Musk shifts focus toward self-driving technology, according to Marko Marjanovic.
- Tesla said the program will launch with safety drivers in the driver's seat having full control of steering and brakes, covering a geofenced area spanning Marin, much of the East Bay, San Francisco and south to San Jose.
