Tesco Security Guard's 'Heart Stops' After He Chokes on Doughnut at Work
Mohamed Nassar remains on life support after choking on a doughnut at work, and his family says his heart stopped for 23 minutes.
On Friday, May 8, Tesco Express security guard Mohamed Nassar, 58, choked on a doughnut during his break at the store on New Bailey Street in Salford, suffering cardiac arrest that left his heart stopped for 23 minutes before paramedics resuscitated him.
Nassar, a father of three who relocated from London to Manchester in 2020, had worked as a security guard for approximately five years before the incident occurred while he was on his break.
His heart remained stopped for 23 minutes; medical staff now assess his brain injuries while he remains on life support in intensive care, with doctors telling his family survival prospects are 'very difficult,' according to his 23-year-old son Seif.
Seif's mother, Nancy Elkarnshawy, and sisters Nariman, 28, and Malak, 14, were left shell-shocked upon learning of his collapse; the family maintains a constant vigil at Manchester Royal Infirmary, describing him as 'the kindest person.'
As Nassar's sole breadwinner role leaves the family facing financial strain, a GoFundMe appeal has been established to provide support during 'the most devastating time of their lives,' while Tesco Express manager Osarugue Onaghise expressed the store's condolences.
