Terrorist killed, AK rifle recovered during Budgam encounter: Army

- On Friday, the anti-terror operation in Budgam's forest area entered its second day as security forces searched for terrorists. The mission was launched on Thursday following intelligence about a suspected group moving from Pakherpora in Pulwama toward Yousmarg in Budgam.
- The Indian Army, Kashmir Police, and Central Reserve Police Force launched Operation ASHDAR following specific intelligence inputs about terrorist presence in the Ashdar Gali region. The joint operation targeted the suspected group identified through surveillance.
- During the search, troops observed suspicious activity and upon being challenged, terrorists opened fire, triggering a fierce exchange of gunfire. The Srinagar-based Chinar Corps confirmed one terrorist was neutralised and one AK rifle was recovered.
- Security forces are continuing their search as another terrorist is believed to be hiding in the forest. Authorities have restricted visits to the nearby tourist location of Doodhpathri until further orders.
- Connecting to the Pir Panjal range, the dense forest area remains under heavy surveillance. Officials rushed additional personnel to the region to prevent terrorists from escaping toward districts including Rajouri, Poonch, and Baramulla.
