Poland's Territorial Defense Forces have been placed on high alert after a severe storm hit the country overnight Friday into Saturday, sending thousands of emergency calls to services and causing power outages.

The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) has issued a warning of storms in southwestern Poland, as well as strong winds in the Podlaskie, Mazowieckie, Łódzkie, and Warmian-Masurian Voivodeships. Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz announced that Territorial Defence Force soldiers are ready to assist the services.
By 8:00 a.m., we had recorded over 1,900 interventions related to the passage of the storm front. The highest number of calls was from the Mazovia region, Brigadier Karol Kroć of the State Fire Service told PAP. Around 10:00 a.m., Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz announced that Territorial Defense Force soldiers were ready to assist the services.
The Minister of National Defense has placed more than a dozen Territorial Defense Force brigades on heightened alert. This is in response to the violent storms sweeping across Poland. Soldiers have little time.
Firefighters reported nearly 6,000 interventions following the passage of the storm front across Poland. The largest number of calls came from the Mazovia region. Due to the severe weather, the Territorial Defence Force (WOT) remains on heightened alert, and RCB alerts have been sent to recipients in 15 voivodeships.
