Pregnant woman dies after crash in Sydney's north-west
A 19-year-old P-plater faces charges including dangerous driving causing death after a two-vehicle crash pushed a Kia into a pregnant pedestrian, killing her and her unborn child.
- On Friday night, a 33-year-old woman who was eight months pregnant was struck on George Street in Hornsby around 8pm and she and her unborn baby later died.
- Police say the white BMW allegedly rear-ended the silver Kia Carnival station wagon, which slowed to allow pedestrians to cross at the car-park entrance at George Street, Hornsby, pushing it into the pedestrian.
- About 12.45am on Saturday, police arrested the 19-year-old P-plate driver at a home on Millewa Avenue, Wahroonga, and took him to Hornsby Police Station; both drivers were taken to Hornsby Hospital for mandatory testing.
- Officers from Ku‑Ring‑Gai Police Area Command established a crime scene examined by the Crash Investigation Unit, urging witnesses to contact Hornsby Police Station or Crime Stoppers as inquiries continue.
- Emergency services were called shortly after 8pm on Friday, NSW Ambulance and paramedics treated the woman at the scene before she was taken to Westmead Hospital in critical condition.
