The tequila industry is one of the main economic and export engines of Jalisco. However, behind the growth of this production chain there is a large-scale environmental challenge: for each liter of processed tequila, between 10 and 15 liters of vinaza are generated, a liquid residue with a high organic load that can be up to 100 times more polluting than the grey domestic waters if it does not receive adequate treatment.
