Tennessee Woman Arrested After Allegedly Trying to Drown One of Her Children in Backyard Pool
Authorities said the child suffered minor injuries and Beirne is being held on a $50,000 bond.
- On Wednesday, July 15, Mikaylee Rae Beirne, 31, of Johnson City, Tennessee, allegedly attempted to drown a child in a backyard swimming pool on Cochran Road. Authorities charged Beirne with aggravated child abuse and neglect.
- One child ran inside the home to alert an adult that Beirne was forcing another child underwater. The adult rushed to the pool and demanded Beirne release the child, but authorities say she refused.
- Witnesses pulled Beirne away and removed the child from the water before calling 911. Deputies noted the child suffered minor injuries and bruising consistent with witness accounts of the incident.
- Leaving the scene in a vehicle before deputies arrived, Beirne was taken into custody a short time later. She remains held at the Washington County Detention Center on a $50,000 bond.
