Tennessee National Guard helps with historic severe storm clean-up
The Tennessee National Guard aids Nashville and Middle Tennessee with debris removal, road clearing, and welfare checks after the region’s largest power outage, lawmakers said.
- On Jan. 28, members of the Davidson County legislative delegation asked Gov. Bill Lee to deploy Tennessee National Guard resources for debris removal, welfare checks, coordination with the Office of Emergency Management, and first responder support.
- The severe storm produced widespread tree damage, impassable roads, and prolonged utility outages that threatened life and property in Middle Tennessee, Southern Kentucky, and Davidson County, Tennessee.
- On Jan.29 Tennessee National Guard members Wesley Carver, Senior Airman Xaviera Stevens, Marvell Stones and Tahliyah Binford removed ice and tree debris on Crater Hill Drive, Nashville, while teams reopened roads and assisted vulnerable residents across Middle and West Tennessee.
- Operating at full capacity, Metro departments including public works, first responders and the Office of Emergency Management continued recovery efforts Tuesday, prompting requests for additional state support.
- Thursday, schools across Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky remain closed, with numerous districts shifting to remote operations or canceling classes, as shown in the list of district closures and remote operations.
