Ten Months After Her Heart Stopped During a Game, Angel City’s Savy King Returns to the Pitch
Savy King returned to play after surgery for a rare heart defect, leading league-wide CPR training that can triple survival chances, officials said.

- During the second half last May 9, King sat dazed in the 74th minute before collapsing during Angel City home match vs. Utah Royals; she then underwent surgery to repair an anomalous left coronary artery.
- Trainers and on-field medical staff treated King for about 11 minutes, then she completed six weeks of physical therapy and exercised three days a week for three months under close monitoring.
- Through Savy King's leadership, all 16 NWSL teams received hands-only CPR and AED training this year, making the NWSL the only U.S. pro league to implement training at that scale.
- The game continued with about 12 minutes of stoppage time despite calls to suspend it, prompting new procedures after Racing Louisville's Savannah DeMelo collapsed, NWSL Commissioner Jessica Berman said.
