Kahleah Copper scored 27 points and Valeriane Ayayi added a career-high 20 as Phoenix won despite missing Alyssa Thomas.
On Saturday, the Phoenix Mercury defeated the Toronto Tempo 89-80, led by Kahleah Copper's 27 points and Valeriane Ayayi's career-high 20 points.
Both teams played without key starters: Phoenix missed Alyssa Thomas, suspended for "recklessly making contact with her fist to the throat area," and Jovana Nogic, while Toronto's Marina Mabrey sat out due to neck spasms.
DeWanna Bonner recorded 13 points and 11 rebounds for Phoenix, while Lexi Held added 16 points. Nyara Sabbaly scored 14 and rookie Tima Pouye contributed 13 for Toronto.
Phoenix coach Nate Tibbetts won a successful challenge late in the fourth quarter that helped preserve the victory. The Mercury improved to 7-13 while the Tempo fell to 9-10.
The Mercury host the Seattle Storm on Thursday, while Toronto returns to action on July 5 to face the Dallas Wings as both teams continue their push through the season.
