Teen Accused of Terror Plot Against Islamic Center Near Chicago
NELSON, LANCASHIRE, UK, JUL 18 – Muhammad Billal admitted collecting Islamic State propaganda and attempting to illicitly buy a firearm while planning a gun attack and travel to join extremists in Somalia.
- On Friday at the Old Bailey in London, Muhammad Billal, 18, from Nelson, Lancashire, pleaded guilty to planning a terrorist gun attack.
- Between last April and August, the teen accessed Rumiyah issues for Islamic State propaganda, and obtained an Ethiopian visa to reach Somalia.
- Between February and October last year, Muhammad Billal researched `accessible shooting ranges` and bought chest rigs, and conducted online reconnaissance with an attempted illicit firearm purchase.
- Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb ordered a pre-sentence report ahead of autumn sentencing, remanded Billal until October 17 at the Old Bailey, and set an August 4, 2025, status hearing.
- After the report assesses his motives and risk, the court will sentence him at a later date. The senior judge said the report will detail Billal’s motives and evaluate the danger he poses.
