Teenage driver dies, one seriously injured in Kawartha region crash

Police say a 16-year-old driver died and a passenger was airlifted with life-threatening injuries after a two-vehicle crash.

  • On Saturday, a 16-year-old girl died following a two-vehicle collision in Bobcaygeon, a community in Kawartha Lakes, Ont., according to the Ontario Provincial Police.
  • Officers responded around 8:30 p.m. near County Road 49 and Burys Green Road after calls of a two-vehicle accident, the OPP reported in a news release Sunday.
  • A passenger in the vehicle was airlifted to a trauma centre with life-threatening injuries, while the driver of the second vehicle was uninjured, the OPP confirmed.
  • Following an investigation at the scene, roads have reopened to normal traffic flow, police said.
  • Anyone with dashcam footage or information about the collision is urged to contact the OPP or Crime Stoppers to assist with the ongoing investigation.
