Boy charged with arson in connection with attack on synagogue in northwest London
Police said the attack caused minor smoke damage and no injuries, while a 19-year-old suspect was released on bail.
- A 17-year-old boy from Brent, London, has been charged with arson after an attack on Kenton United Synagogue in Harrow. He is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates Court today, Tuesday.
- Footage posted online shows a figure in dark clothing setting light to a liquid-filled bottle and throwing it through a window at the synagogue late over the weekend, causing minor smoke damage.
- A 19-year-old man also arrested in connection with the attack has been released on bail pending further inquiries, the Metropolitan Police said. The Community Security Trust confirmed no injuries or significant structural damage occurred.
- This attack is the latest in a series of incidents targeting Jewish sites across London, including a drone flight near the Israeli embassy and arson attacks in Golders Green, Finchley, and Hendon.
- A group calling itself the Islamic Movement of the Companions of the Right, suspected to be Iran-backed, has claimed responsibility for most recent incidents including this attack and other incidents in Europe since early spring.
