Teen dies in alleged carjacking attempt
- Victoria Police said a stolen grey Skoda sedan pursued a Toyota on Derrimut Road at Hoppers Crossing about 12am on Friday, ending in a crash that killed a teenage boy at the scene.
- Victoria Police say the Skoda was taken from a Maidstone property between March 11 and 12, and have urged anyone with dashcam or CCTV to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
- The Skoda allegedly rammed the Toyota, then hit a Ford sedan and a Ford Ranger, causing it to roll several times, with emergency crews including the SES and police at the scene.
- Police remained at the scene on Friday morning as a 16-year-old girl was arrested, taken to hospital with minor injuries, then discharged, and other injured teens were taken to hospital under police guard.
- Youth crime has been in the spotlight after the March 6 fatal stabbing of Aidan Becker, prompting the Premier to send the Violence Reduction Unit and meet his family; a GoFundMe raised nearly $100,000, and the Kangaroos called him 'Compassionate, courageous and gone too soon'.
