Five people and suspected gunman killed after mass shooting in Michigan
Authorities said a 13-year-old girl survived, while all six victims died of gunshot wounds in a search that ended with the suspect's body.
On Friday, shootings in Missaukee County left 5 people dead, including suspect Chad Hickman, whose body was found in a wooded area following a large-scale search.
Court records show Hickman was convicted in 2024 of misdemeanor fourth-degree child abuse and sentenced to one year in jail, with felony assault and sexual conduct charges dismissed.
Officers responded Friday morning to a home about 170 miles northwest of Detroit, where Michigan State Police found a 16-year-old boy, a 45-year-old man, and a 40-year-old woman dead; a 53-year-old man was later discovered at a second location.
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said she is monitoring the situation and her thoughts are with the victims, while Ashley Miller of the MSP called the event heartbreaking for investigators.
A teenage girl survivor remains in stable condition while Miller said Saturday the investigation is ongoing; authorities are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
