Ted Sarandos Meets PM Modi; Netflix Announces India Storytelling Initiative and 100 IICT Scholarships
Netflix will fund scholarships and new training partnerships to build skills in animation, visual effects, gaming and comics, officials said.
- On Wednesday, Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi to unveil the Netflix India Storytelling Initiative, a multi-phase investment in the country's creative talent pipeline.
- The initiative supports the Indian government's "Viksit Bharat @ 2047" ambitions, building on a decade of partnership during which Netflix produced over 200 originals and shot in more than 100 locations across India.
- Netflix is collaborating with the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies to co-develop visual effects curricula and fund 100 scholarships, while partnering with the National Film Development Corporation to train audio description talent.
- These efforts aim to position India as a global storytelling hub, equipping creators with skills across the Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics ecosystem, a key driver of the country's growing "Orange Economy."
- On Thursday, Sarandos will appear at Express Adda in New Delhi for a conversation with Anant Goenka, Executive Director of The Indian Express Group, to discuss the future of entertainment.
