Teagan Kavan dominates on the mound and Texas wins SEC softball championship for first time
Teagan Kavan struck out 12 and allowed three hits as Texas won the SEC Softball Tournament for the first time, officials said.
On Saturday, fourth-seeded Texas won the SEC Softball Tournament for the first time, defeating Alabama 7-1. Teagan Kavan struck out 12 batters in a complete-game three-hitter.
In the second inning, Texas loaded the bases, scoring on a Victoria Hunter pinch-hit single and a Kayden Henry grounder. The Longhorns added three runs in the fourth with a Katie Stewart RBI single.
Kavan allowed only one first-inning home run by Alexis Pupillo, mirroring her College World Series performance. Alabama starter Jocelyn Briski allowed two runs over six innings.
SEC Player Katie Stewart hit her UT-record 25th home run in the sixth, with Reese Atwood adding a sacrifice fly. A tournament-record 36 home runs were hit during the event.
Alabama has made 26 previous NCAA Tournament appearances, while Texas has made 25 as both teams advance to postseason competition. Each program brings championship experience to the next stage.
