Teacher found guilty of gross indecency against boy over multiple sex acts in 1990s
Prosecutors said she abused her position of trust and subjected the boy to repeated sexual activity, with jurors hearing he was nine to 12.
On Wednesday, a jury convicted former private tutor Deborah Franklin, 65, of eight counts of gross indecency against a boy during the 1990s when he was aged between nine and 12.
Franklin gained the family's trust to access the boy's bedroom for tutoring, where prosecutors said she subjected him to "repeated sexual activity" over years.
Jurors heard Franklin tied the boy to her bed, blindfolded him, and referred to herself as his "girlfriend," while the victim's sister once caught her under the covers in his room.
Judge Kamran Choudhry remanded Franklin into custody, warning of a "high possibility" of jail at her October 1 sentencing, while Detective Constable Liz McGrath commended the victim for his "bravery shown."
The verdict demonstrates commitment to securing justice for victims of historic abuse regardless of time passed, with Detective Constable Liz McGrath stating authorities are "committed to getting justice for victims.
