Tata Sons Board Meeting to Discuss Public Listing, Chandrasekaran's Tenure Today
The Tata Sons board meets today to address three critical challenges: the Reserve Bank's push for mandatory public listing, Chairman N Chandrasekaran's decision to step down, and the unresolved AGM impasse.
Forcing the listing issue to the center of the agenda, the Reserve Bank rejected the company's bid to surrender its Core Investment Company registration in recent weeks.
Proxy advisory firm InGovern emphasized that listing would improve transparency, market scrutiny, and accountability for Tata Sons' vast ecosystem of more than 1.77 crore shareholder accounts.
The AGM was adjourned on August 18 due to lack of quorum after the Sir Ratan Tata Trust could not provide representation following a restraining order from the Maharashtra Charity Commissioner.
Noel Tata, chairman of Tata Trusts, faces a delicate balancing act managing board disagreements and trustee divisions while navigating regulatory pressure from the Reserve Bank to resolve the impasse.
