Air India Plane Crash: Tata Sons Sets up ‘AI-171 Memorial and Welfare Trust’, Pledges ₹500 Crore for Victims
MUMBAI, INDIA, JUL 18 – The trust will provide Rs 1 crore ex gratia to families and fund medical treatment and infrastructure rebuilding after the crash that killed 260 people, Tata Group said.
- In Mumbai, Tata Sons and Tata Trusts set up the AI-171 Memorial and Welfare Trust, registering it in Mumbai and committing Rs 500 crore.
- On June 12, the crash of flight AI-171 enroute from Ahmedabad to London killed 260 people, including 19 on the ground.
- Committing Rs 250 crore each, the trust will offer Rs 1 crore ex gratia payments and support rebuilding the B J Medical College Hostel infrastructure.
- Trust management includes a five-member Board of Trustees, naming S Padmanabhan and Sidharth Sharma, with additional trustees to be appointed soon.
- Beyond this, the trust will provide aid and initiatives for dependents of victims, first responders, medical and disaster relief professionals.
