Target and other retailers just pulled these snack mixes over salmonella risk
Target has already pulled one trail mix from shelves, and no illnesses have been reported as the company recalls products out of caution.
Illinois-Based manufacturer Sanfilippo is recalling several snack mixes sold under the Fisher, Southern Style Nuts, Squirrel Brand, and Good & Gather brands due to possible Salmonella contamination; affected products are available at Target, online retailers, and QVC.
California Dairies previously recalled a dry milk powder seasoning ingredient used in these products; although the FDA says batches tested negative for Salmonella, Sanfilippo is recalling them out of caution.
Affected items include 8 oz Good & Gather Mexican Street Corn Trail Mix and 30 oz Fisher Tex Mex Trail Mix, with some products carrying best-by dates stretching into 2027.
The FDA advises consumers not to eat the recalled products and to return items to retailers for refunds or replacements; no illnesses have been reported so far.
Teresa Murray, consumer watchdog for the Public Interest Research Group, recommends making recall checks a weekly routine, as warnings do not always reach consumers in time.
